Staying Creative During Quarantine
I, like everybody else, have been struggling recently with staying creative and maintaining my productivity. The Coronavirus pandemic may be the most devastating setback to the theatre industry in recent history, but it’s also united industry professionals like nothing I’ve ever seen. Here are some ways I’ve been staying connected and productive!
I made a Wicked parody video! I had so much fun writing this with my mom and sister!
I consulted on a podcast! I babbled about She Loves Me with my dear friend Matt for his Broadway Babble podcast.
I wrote about my “Covid-19 Closure” experience for the popular theatre blog Actor Aesthetic.
I have been sitting in on (free!) virtual masterclasses with industry professionals, thanks to Kate Lumpkin and NoMarking.
The Growing Studio is offering free Q&As with industry professionals on the future of theatre.
Stewart/Whitley is offering donation-based workshops for The Actor’s Fund with industry professionals.
I have been streaming dance classes on Facebook and Instagram Live thanks to some very talented choreographer friends!
Trivia nights are a wonderful way to keep the mind active! I’ve found a few friends who have been hosting weekly.
I’ve gotten into yoga with all the time I now have to slow down my workouts and keep my mind and body connected.
I downloaded TikTok, and It’s been such a fun and time consuming creative outlet!
This class from Yale, now offered for free online!
With all of this in mind, I’ve also found it so important to slow down and take time for myself. I love having options to be creative and feel connected with other theatre professionals, but I’ve found it’s all about balance and there are definitely days I’d rather watch movies and bake something yummy!
